Their TLC show may have been canceled, but the Honey Boo Boo clan has remained headline news with their scandals and drama.
It is now reported that Honey Boo Boo’s older half-sister, Lauryn Thompson (a.k.a Pumpkin) is engaged to her boyfriend of nine months.
Here’s the potentially scandalous part: Pumpkin is only sixteen years old and her fiancé, Joshua Efird is nineteen years old.
Joshua popped the question two days before Christmas at a seafood restaurant.
Mama June says she approves of her son-in-law because he is okay with taking things slow with her 16-year-old daughter. The newly engaged pair claims they are saving themselves for their wedding night.
While Pumpkin’s age might seem scandalous, in Georgia the age of consent is only 16. However, the couple plans to wait until Pumpkin turns 18 to tie the knot.
That’s a long engagement!
Now people are questioning whether or not Mama June is letting her kids grow up too fast. After all, her oldest daughter, Anna gave birth to her daughter, Kaitlyn when she was only seventeen years old, and at 4-years-old Alana was a beauty pageant regular, complete with fake eye-lashes, frilly dresses and big curly hairdos. Now, Mama June has a daughter who is engaged to be married before she has even completed the ninth grade.
This isn’t the first time Mama June’s parenting skills have been criticized.
Mama June, whose real name is June Shannon, was accused in 2014 of dating child molester Mark McDaniel, who spent ten years in prison for abusing an 8-year-old. Then, Mama June’s oldest daughter, Anna Shannon Cardwell revealed that she was the 8-year-old who had been molested by McDaniel.
More headlines were made last year by the family when Pumpkin revealed on "Inside Edition" that both she and her mother are bisexual.
Now engaged, Pumpkin will have the whole world watching to see whether she waits to marry her new fiancé or if they tie the knot before Pumpkin can even vote.
